Sign in with a wallet

Use an Ethereum wallet instead of an email and password. What you're asked to sign, what we store, and the current limits.

Updated · No account needed to read

How it works#

  1. Choose “Continue with a wallet”
On Sign in or Create account. If you have more than one wallet installed, pick the one you want.
  2. Approve the connection
Your wallet shares your public address with web3legal.app. Nothing is signed yet.
  3. Sign the sign-in message
Your wallet shows a “Sign in to Web3Legal” message (the Sign-In with Ethereum standard, EIP-4361). Signing it proves you control the address. It is not a transaction: no gas, no token approval, nothing leaves your wallet.
  4. You're in
The first time, this creates your Web3Legal account. Next time, the same wallet signs you back in to the same account.

Stay safe#

Check that the message starts with web3legal.app wants you to sign in before you sign. Most wallets also warn you if the request comes from a different site.

Which wallets work#

  • Ethereum browser wallets such as MetaMask, Rabby, Coinbase Wallet and Brave Wallet.
  • On a phone, open web3legal.app inside your wallet app's built-in browser.
  • The network your wallet is on doesn't matter for sign-in. You are only signing a message.

Not supported: smart-contract wallets (for example Safe multisigs), Solana and other non-Ethereum wallets, and hardware wallets that can't sign plain messages.

What we store#

Your public wallet address, used as your account ID. We don't read your balances or transaction history, and we don't store anything that could move funds.

Current limits#

  • A wallet account is its own account. It isn't connected to an account you created with email or Google, and the two can't be merged.
  • There's no email on a wallet account, so there's no password to reset. If you lose access to the wallet, you lose access to the account.
  • Sharing by email doesn't reach a wallet account. Projects and workflows that someone shares to an email address won't appear for it.
  • Signing in gives no special access. A wallet account works the same as any other account, with the same free and Pro options.
